Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light is offering a Reparations Learning Lab focused on wealth return! It is Wed, Feb12, 12:00 pm -1:00 pm, on Zoom. Please register.

Star Lore with Wilfred Buck

Learn about the Native view of stars. The Walker Art Center and the Bell Museum will
offer Anishinaabe filmmaker Lisa Jackson’s documentary portrait of Wilfred Buck, on
Thurs., Feb. 13, from 6:00-7:00 pm.

Wilfred Buck is a First Nations astronomer (Cree) with deep knowledge of the Cree, Ojibwe, and Lakota peoples’ observation of the stars. A conversation featuring Ms. Jackson and Mr. Buck will follow the screening.

Admission is free; no registration is required. Some parts of the program may take place outdoors, so dress accordingly.

Minnesota Missing and Murdered Relatives Day

Friday, February 14 is Minnesota Missing and Murdered Relatives Day. Minnesota recognizes missing and murdered Native people in February; the national day is in May.

On February 14, a commemoration service will take place at the Minneapolis American Indian Center (1530 E. Franklin Ave.) at 11:00 am.

A Reason to Watch the Oscars

Sunday, March 2, 6 pm

The film “Sugarcane” was directed by Julian Brave Noisecat. Julian was recently nominated for an Oscar. The film’s publicity states, “In the 97 years of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ history, no film directed by an Indigenous North American person has ever been nominated for an Oscar until now.”

National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Event

The Indigenous Peoples Task Force is presenting this event, which will be held Thursday, March 20, 10 am – 4 pm at the Minneapolis American Indian Center, 1530 E Franklin Ave, Minneapolis.

New Book Study Begins

Tuesday, February 11, will be the first meeting to discuss The Sentence, by Louise Erdrich. We will meet from 7:00 until 8:30 PM via Zoom (ask Ann if you need the link). Discussion will be focused on Pages 1-73 (stopping at the section titled “So Grateful”).

For those of you who like to plan ahead, here is the “reading list” for the full book discussion series:
