Who’s Homeless and Why

On Thursday November 9, 2023 at 7 pm, Greg Owen, chair of Agate and researcher for the Wilder Research Homeless Study will help us understand more clearly why so many are homeless.

He will help us think about the short-term needs:  (i.e. how to reduce the suffering of those on the streets) while we consider ways to address the long-term needs (i.e. affordable housing).

This is a hybrid presentation in the Large Sanctuary at New Branches and via Zoom 7:00-8:30 p.m.  Zoom meeting details are available in the Living Table member dashboard area.

Update – Spirit and Greg have shared the presentation materials.

  1. Thanks Greg. I want to learn more about this. Always hearing that drugs are the major reason and don’t know if that is true or not.

    • I’m certain that Greg’s presentation will be really good.

Since I don’t know whether Greg will see this post in order to reply to this comment though, and thus for anyone else who might see it:

No, Drugs are definitely not the major reason for homelessness.

  2. Greg, thanks for the historical overview you gave at the beginning of your talk on homelessness. I lived in Milwaukee in 1983, and I remember the South Side suddenly going through the same transitions that you described in Minneapolis. “We really thought it was temporary.”
