A New Season Indeed

This will be a summer of exploration and conversation, and by the grace of God - transformation.

After years of planning and anticipation, sabbatical is finally here. This will be a new season for all of us. I will be traveling in the bus with Erika and Morgan. For the first half of the summer we will be visiting back East with stops in Chicago and Columbus. Then the second half of the summer will be shorter trips north and west.

My plans include a lot of rest, reading (just for fun), painting, and writing. And, of course, a lot of time at the ocean. The purpose of sabbatical is renewal. As many of you know, this is my first sabbatical ever, after 30 years of ministry. I am looking forward to a summer without a schedule.

Just because I will be away, does not mean I don’t have hopes and dreams for the Living Table community while I am gone. You will be in excellent hands with Rev. Elaine Kirkland. I pray for you to be blessings to one another as Elaine shares her gifts and passions with you, and you with her.

It’s hard to imagine a summer like the one we are entering into. Many of you travel during the summer. It is my hope that you will continue to join in worship via Zoom while you are away – at least as much as internet access allows. This will be a summer of exploration and conversation, and by the grace of God – transformation.

God is always doing a new thing. We have opportunity this summer to join in this new thing with focus, passion, and intention. Remember our Star Word for this year is imagination. Please continue to imagine Living Table as a thriving, growing, relevant community long into the future.

I am excited to see what you will do together in the coming months. I pray there will be much joy and laughter as you explore this new season together. And when we come together again in September, we will share our stories of the Spirit’s doings.
